DE PIÈCES ET DE MORCEAUX ...

Sound performance

Parsimony and contrast were the starting points. Collection and chiaroscuro could have been unifying words. "From odds and ends", "de bric et de broc" offered a hybrid between an onomatopoeia familiar to the sounds and the idea of a sparse assembly of a collection of audible contrasts. Fight and quarrel could express the dynamics. Instantaneous events versus extended duration would describe the time duality. With "de pièces et de morceaux ...", a sound piece, or rather a situation for live experiments, especially imagined for Electrochoc, we will engage in an aggregate of improvisations, systems, noisy episodes, coloured fantasies and punctuations, analog circuitry, magnetisms, synthesis, programming, spatial clusters, guests, DIY speakers, sound impressions of analyzed and resynthesized locations. Synthesis being the central machinery, without recordings of the so-called reality, "de pièces et de morceaux ..." also conceptualize the idea of synthesis as an assembly of parts, chemical components, dense spectral lines, at different scales: tiny times, extended durations, waiting, as an enclitic form.

Philippe-Aubert Gauthier thanks Érick D'Orion and Alexis Bellavance for their participation.
