What it would be to listen to the sound environment of an urban park within the context of a studio, but without a sound recording of that environment? What is the cultural status of the studio in our listening habits, the studio operates in various stage of sound and music production that we listen every day. The studio as a cultural object operate as a filter. "Studio" is a conceptual piece and sound art sculpture inspired by these questions. "Studio" is a 5.1 Surround real-time acoustical sound capture of the sound environment, no electronics involved, using empty loudspeaker cabinets acoustically connected to the exterior sound environment.
"Studio" was supported by the Canadian Art Council and presented at the Festival International de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville (FIMAV, Québec, Canada) in 2014. Curator: Erick D'Orion. P.-A. Gauthier acknowledges the financial support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
