Over the years I had to define, develop, deliver and evaluation different specialized workshops and special training in different contexts that often blend engineering and arts. Teaching excerpt in modular synth shown below.

2016 GROUP TRAINING: 3D MODELS AND ANIMATION

Group training (28 hours) at Vidéographe (artist-run center, Montréal). Theory and practice. Lectures, demos and examples, guided individual projects. Topics: Blender, modeling, materials, lights, UV mapping, animations, constraints, armature, etc.

2015 GROUP TRAINING: ANALOG MODULAR SYNTHESIZERS: THEORY AND PRACTICE (EURORACK)

Advanced Group training with individual and hands-on works (planed: 30 hours, maximum of 8 participants). Collaboration with Stéphane Claude and David Kristian, Oboro, artist-run center (Montréal, CAN). Images.

2015 GROUP TRAINING: 3D MODELS AND 3D PRINTS

Group training (14 hours, 5 participants), Sporobole (Sherbrooke, CAN). Topics: history of fabrication process, 3D prints, 3D models with Blender 3D, mesh analysis, mesh debug, export, slicer, MakerBot and 3D Sense Projet printers.

This training was offered at Sporobole (artist-run center, Sherbrooke, CAN) where a new 3D printer was acquired in 2013. Sherbrooke is a small city with a small artistic community. In this specific context, I had the challenge to introduce non-engineers to cartesian geometry, 3D modeling, industrial processing and manufacturing. Besides the actual 14-hour workshop, I developed supplementary tutorials in two different format: 1) illustrated tutorials in pdf format, and 2) on-line video tutorials. These supplementary materials where provided in order to successfully reach different learning style and pace. Between the two training days, I give individual project to each participants. The last afternoon is dedicated to individual project presentations, feedbacks and questions. Here is an example of video tutorial for this workshop: http://vimeo.com/77633243.

2014 GROUP TRAINING: 3D MODELS AND ANIMATION

Group training (11 hours, 8 participants), Conseil de la Culture de l'Estrie. Topics: Blender, modeling, materials, lights, UV mapping, animations, constraints, armature, etc. See complete description above.

2014 GROUP TRAINING: SPATIAL AUDIO

Group training (14 hours, 6 participants), Conseil de la Culture de l'Estrie. Topics: spatial sound and spatial sound perception for artists and composers.

This training was offered at Sporobole (artist-run center, Sherbrooke, CAN) where a spatial sound studio was built in 2013 with 16 loudspeakers. Sherbrooke is a small city with a small artistic community where very few have access to high-end education and equipments. In this specific context, I had the challenge to introduce self-taught artists or acoustical musicians to digital audio, mixing, etc. Besides the actual 14-hour workshop, I developed supplementary tutorials in two different format: 1) illustrated tutorials in pdf format (see Appendix 10 for an example of written tutorial developed for this workshop), and 2) on-line video tutorials. These supplementary material where provided in order to successfully reach different learning style and pace. Here is an example of video tutorial for this workshop: http://vimeo.com/82952771. Between the two training days, the participants had individual access to the spatial sound studio to complete an individual project. The last day was used to collectively present and critic individual works.

2013 GROUP TRAINING: 3D MODELS AND 3D PRINTS

Group training (14 hours, 8 participants), Conseil de la Culture de l'Estrie. Topics: history of fabrication process, 3D prints, 3D models with Blender 3D, mesh analysis, mesh debug, export, slicer, Replicator and MakerBot. See complete description above.

2013 GROUP TRAINING: DIGITAL AUDIO – THEORY AND PRACTICE

Group training (14 hours, 8 participants), Conseil de la Culture de l'Estrie. Topics: digital audio signals, sequencers, Reaper, audio editing, audio mixing, signal processing.

This training was offered at Sporobole (artist-run center, Sherbrooke, CAN) where a sound studio was built in 2013 with 16 loudspeakers. Sherbrooke is a small city with a small artistic community where very few have access to high-end education and equipments. 2013 INDIVIDUAL TRAINING: AUDIO

Individual training (two days) of a technician at Sporobole, Emploi Québec, Sherbrooke (CAN).

In 2012, Sporobole (artist-run center, Sherbrooke) have been through extensive renovation and several new studios were built. Since finding a general technician was not an easy task, Sporobole hired a promising young technician with knowledge in printing. I was in charge of developing an individual training applied to audio for the use of the newly built sound studio.

2009-12 WORKSHOPS: SPATIAL HEARING AND SPATIAL AUDIO

Three editions since 2009 (two weekends, from 12 to 20 participants). In artist-run centers.

Over the years, I developed an extended set of digital slides and educational strategy in order to teach and train musicians, composers sound artists to the psychoacoustic of spatial hearing and signal processing for sound spatialization. In order to facilitate the understanding of theoretical ideas, I developed a set of perceptual and psychoacoustics demonstration using Pure-Data and few loudspeakers about single source and multiple source localization. In the latest editions, an extended part on Wave Field Synthesis (WFS) was included with a clear hands-on emphasis. For this purpose, I bring a homemade WFS system with 16 loudspeakers, car amplifiers and programming in Pure-Data using this type of setup: http://pag-sound.blogspot.ca/2007/05/pure-data-convention-2007-montral.html.

2011 WORKSHOP: OPENSOURCE SOFTWARE FOR ARTISTS

History, legal rights, applications. With Conseil de la Culture de l'Estrie.

For this 2-hour introductory training, I cover many historical and ethical concepts in order to convince participants that open-source software has deeper meaning and implication than free software. In a second part, I present the main and most popular open-source software for the most common task of the professional artists in its daily life.

2008 WORKSHOP: LOUDSPEAKER AND BEAMFORMING

Master class, Chambre Blanche, artist-run center, Manif Internationale d'Art de Québec, 4e Ed (CAN).

In this full-day workshop, I presented the installation “Auditory Tactics”: how the loudspeaker were designed and built using open-source freeware, and how beamforming for spatial sound projection can be used on the basis of simple programming in Pure-Data.

2006 WORKSHOPS: SPATIAL HEARING AND SPATIAL AUDIO

“Arts sonores et électroniques” (sound and electronic arts), Département des arts visuels, Université Laval (CAN). Three-hour version of the workshop described above.

2004 WORKSHOPS: SPATIAL HEARING AND SPATIAL AUDIO

First edition, one weekend, Avatar, centre d'artistes en arts audio, Québec (CAN).

In this first edition of my workshop on spatial audio, I developed no less than 150 illustrated digital slides on spatial hearing and spatial audio. This version was mostly involved with theoretical considerations and perceptual demonstrations. The demonstrations are using few loudspeakers and Pure-Data interactive demonstration along with auditory illusions that illustrated mechanism of single source localization, summing localization of coherent sources, localization of incoherent sources and visual/audio interaction in spatial hearing.
